This policy explains what information Giftopedia ("we", "us") collects when you use giftopedia.app (the "Service"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By creating an account you acknowledge this policy. Our Terms and Conditions also apply.

Information we collect

Information you provide

• Account information: your name, email address, date of birth and password. You may also add a phone number.
• Content you create: lists, items (names, links, prices, notes and images), events, reminders, gift exchange details, and settings such as your preferred currency and notification preferences.
• Information about other people: if you invite someone to a list or exchange, you give us their email address so we can send the invitation. Please only share contact details for people who would reasonably expect to hear from you.
• Communications: messages you send to our support team.

Information collected automatically

• Usage and device data: such as IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and timestamps. We use this to operate, secure and improve the Service.
• Cookies: we use cookies that are necessary for the Service to work, such as keeping you signed in. We do not use cookies for third-party advertising. See "Cookies and links to other sites" below.
• Sign-up source: we may record how you found the Service (for example, a referral link) to understand what is working.

How we use information

• To provide and maintain the Service, including creating and securing your account.
• To send you service messages by email or text, such as verification codes, password resets, list invitations and the reminders you ask for (for example, birthday reminders).
• To send occasional tips or product updates by email, which you can opt out of at any time.
• To respond to your requests and provide support.
• To understand usage, fix problems, prevent abuse and improve the Service.
• To comply with the law and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who can see your information

• Other users: your name and the content of lists you make public or share are visible to the people who can access them. Private lists are visible only to you and the people you choose. Think carefully about what you put on a list you share.
• Service providers: companies that help us run the Service, such as providers of hosting, data storage, email and text-message delivery, and analytics. They may only use your information to perform services for us.
• Legal and safety: when we believe disclosure is required by law, or necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or Giftopedia.
• Business changes: if Giftopedia is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will give notice if it becomes subject to a materially different policy.
• With your direction or consent.

Cookies and links to other sites

Giftopedia links to products on third-party retailers. Some of those links are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you buy. When you click one, you leave our Service, and the retailer and its partners may set their own cookies and collect their own data under their own policies. We have no control over those sites. You can use your browser settings to block or delete cookies, though some parts of the Service may not work without necessary cookies. We do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" signals, but we honor Global Privacy Control where required by law.

Text messages

If you provide your phone number, we use it to send verification codes and, if you turn them on, reminders. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of text messages or HELP for help. Consent to text messages is not a condition of using the Service beyond phone verification where you choose it.

Retention

We keep your information while your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the Service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. Usage data is generally kept for a shorter period. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we must keep it for legal or security reasons or where it remains in routine backups for a limited time.

Your choices and rights

• Access and update: you can review and edit your account information and content in your account settings.
• Delete: you can delete your account from your settings.
• Notifications: you can change reminders and notification preferences in settings, and unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in them.
• Other requests: depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or object to or restrict certain uses, and to not be treated unfairly for exercising these rights. Contact us to make a request. We may need to verify your identity first. If we decline a request, you may be able to appeal by replying to our response.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No online service can be perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and tell us right away if you think your account has been compromised.

International users

We operate in the United States, and your information may be processed and stored there or in other countries where our service providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection laws than yours. By using the Service you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in those places.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with a new "Last updated" date, and for material changes we will provide additional notice, such as by email or a notice in the Service.
